If Only......

Scene 1:Met a College friend the other day .. I Used to know this girl way back in my junior college. She was hardly interested in usual Physics ,chemistry stuff ....Her interest had always been in doing something creative..So..after 12th exams, when rest of the crowd was trying to run between colleges to secure their admission into one of those So called Top-notch engineering or medical colleges..( Of course i was one of them...!) this girl stood out in the crowd, broke all the chains which were trying to bind her to science stream and changed her course all together...Today, she is a budding advertisement professional...She might not be earning that well as of now..but guys, her radiant face reflected loads of happiness and satisfaction which very few of us get..After looking at her,my friend who was with me said only one thing..
" If only we could have done something like that!!!" .............


Scene 2: This story happened when i was in college...A friend of mine from other college told this.
His senior , a very studious guy, had committed suicide just after first paper of his final exam...That person in question had always been in top 3 , was placed in good company ..so he was all set for his future..!!!! But that one tough paper turned the tables overnight...He just decided to end his life rather than facing the dreaded word "ATKT in Final exam"..
And after exam results were out, people came to know that he had cleared the paper....
Only if he had kept his head cool and waited....
If Only....

Don't you think all of us have faced this If only situations some or the other time...???

A sudden realization of love when its too late, wrong career move realized in your late thirties, ,,,,, if only situations...!!! Okay, lets all agree on the fact that you cannot get everything in life as you want...The god almighty gives everything with a pinch of salt!! But C'mon guys, i mean why salt content becomes a bit extra sometimes??? A friend or Not-So-Ambitious person achieves great height in life and you just keep on wondering If only ....You really like a person, you do realize that he/she is your soul mate..but you don't dare to tell and before you know that person has become somebody Else's wife/husband , and you cant do anything other than saying "If only i would have told before...."
( Unless of course you are hero/heroine of bollywood movies where hero gets his girl in the end even if she is slated to marry somebody else..!!!!!)

I remember a quote, quoted by my dad "

I would much rather have regrets about not doing what people said, than regretting not doing what my heart led me to and wondering what life had been like if I'd just been myself.”

And now as i am writing all this..Suddenly my inner voice has started shouting ." I wish i could have done something more creative,more adventurous!!!!! If only i would have been more gutsy to do so....If only!!!!

Okay, so tell me what do you mean by a "Friend"??

Strange Question,Right? But Believe me guys ,i was asked this question by one of my "Friend" at a point when he got frustrated with my stupid "Tell me whether we are friends or not " type questions...But this is what got my brain working,,and i actually started thinking, what exactly do i mean by friend? whom do we consider our friends??

When i was thinking about this,the first ideal friendship that came to my mind was that of Akash,Sameer and Sid in the movie Dil Chahta Hai...You know that type when you screw your friend's love life..( ya ya even we had done this in our college life) or wake up one another in the middle of the night to go to some odd place..( Except in our case it was not Goa ,but i was once woken up by my sweetest friends at 6.00 A.M in the morning for a supposed morning walk..!!) Or graduating to next level of friendship to advise each other on marriage, career and all Grown Up stuff in life..!!


You meet a person,You talk, You talk again,,and you feel a connection! I read a very cute quote recently, stating "

Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another, 'What! You too? I thought I was the only one."

So very true....Sometimes instead of talking,you fight,you disagree,but still you end up calling each other at the fag end of the day to update about How-the -prof-doesn't know anything or How-my-Office -is bestest (??) office on this planet earth...Has it ever happened with you?? You might not be the two people of same gender,same personality,same interest, but somewhere you share a common thread which connects you to this thing called "Friendship"..

Lots of things remind me of how a friendship should be...Like the friends of Sara & John in movie 'Serendipity' who help them to find their lost love just 3 days before they are about to get married to different people..( i am not saying you should break your friend's marriage, don't give me that dirty look..) ,Like Julia in 'My Best Friend's Wedding' who thinks her best friend Michel is her soul mate and tries to win his heart by hook or by crook but in the end realises her mistake and sets up good example of being true friends.. But why m i being biased..lets sneak into our bollywood movies..Apne desi Jai aur veeru from movie 'sholay' and their 'Yeh Dosti Hum Nahi Todenge' attitude, aur 'Rang de Basanti ' gang of friends who in the end die for each other...

Friend is one who knows you and he/she are going to be there for each other even when you are away/disconnected for time being.... a friend should be someone who will be attending your children's marriage and saying' Kid, Don't tell me how to pacify your parents..i know it better than you....

I hope my friend has now got answer for his question..If not then let me quote an sms which says

A good Friend is one who will bail you out of jail, But a best friend is somebody who will sit beside you and say " Dude we are screwed!!"
